Who should be on your subscriber list?
With few exceptions everyone you know, everyone who knows you and everyone you come in contact with in the future should be on your subscriber list? Remember, one of the biggest reasons for doing marketing is to generage referrals. So even if someone you know is not a specific target for your campaign their brother or co-worker may be. You want to keep everyone you know informed so that they can help refer business to you. Part of you campaign will be to teach your contacts how to refer business to you.
Who do you know? Who Knows You?
You probably already have a database of people that you know or do business with that are candidates for your subscriber list. But you also have a large number of potential subscribers that you know but that you may not have thought of as candidates for your list. Here are some ideas to stimulate your thinking.
Friends, family, and acquaintances.
Start with those people who are closest to you. Your family and friends want you to be successful. You just have to teach them how. Your may think that you mother may not be able to refer you business, but she can. She knows people from church, at the hair salon, at her women's club. If she know who your target customer is, she will be able to send you business just from the contacts she makes in her normal day-to-day business.
Service providers and other small business.
Everyone you do business with should be on you subscriber list, whether they are a customer and business to business service provider. All service providers are looking for customers too. If you are the only one staying in constant contact with them then you will get referrals. These people get it! They know how important a referral is. Their business comes from referrals and they will send them to you. You can also sse your newsletter to spot light a referral source’s company or achievements. The more you promote them, the more they will promote you.
As you meet new people in your business dealings always get their contact information and add them to you subscriber list. An don't worry about them thinking of you as a spammer. If you meet someone in person and show a genuine interest in them, they will welcome your newsletter as a way to get to know you better.
